Muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular, genetic disorder which results in the progressive deterioration of muscle strength and function. At Child First Paediatric Therapy, our paediatric therapists are experienced in working with children with genetic and neuromuscular disorders and their families.

Our therapists would love to work with your child in the following areas/activities to improve their muscle weakness and mobility and strength:
• low-impact exercises, such as swimming
• physical aids such as a wheelchair, leg braces or crutches, can help you maintain standing and stay mobile
• Range-of-motion and stretching exercises

Our team of paediatric therapists are experienced in working with children and their families. The assessment process includes a comprehensive examination of your child’s movement and additional difficulties using a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments. Taking time to learn about the concerns and difficulties your child encounters in everyday life also forms an important component of our assessment.

Child First Paediatric Therapists can assist your child in:
• Treatment for fine motor control addressing activities
• Work on activities of daily living such as; washing, dressing and eating
• Postural and seating assessments for wheelchairs or bed positioning systems
• Prescription of equipment help making everyday tasks a little easier
• Assessment of the home or school to assist with access
