Our Cerebral Palsy Therapy Services Aims to Make Positive Changes in Kids’ and Parents’ Lives

Our team of paediatric therapists are experienced in working with children and their families. The assessment process includes a comprehensive examination of your child’s movement difficulties using a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments. Taking time to learn about the concerns and difficulties your child encounters in everyday life also forms an important component of our assessment.

Following the initial assessment, your therapists will work closely with you and your child to tailor an individual treatment program based on the specific needs of your family. The therapy programs are goal orientated, with your child’s therapist supporting you to implement strategies into the home environment. Intervention may include:

• Hands on treatment either in the therapy gym, at home or at school
• Individual exercise programs
• Positioning
• Respiratory management and advice
• Equipment prescription including standing frames, walking aids and wheelchairs
• Casting following Botox
• Hand and arm therapy using the Saebo dynamic orthotics
• Liaison with other professionals including teachers, Paediatricians and carers

All children with Cerebral Palsy experience some element of Movement Disorder, however, some children also present with additional difficulties, such as cognition and communication. With this in mind, our interdisciplinary approach ensures all the needs of your child are addressed in a coordinated fashion. Child First Paediatric Therapy has close links with the Cerebral Palsy International Sport and Recreation Association. Consequently, our paediatric physiotherapists have an in depth knowledge of accessible sporting options, which play an important component of our Cerebral Palsy therapy. Enjoyment and participation in sport also greatly contributes to improved quality of life and enhanced self-esteem of your child.

We Offer Cerebral Palsy Therapy to Help Kids Independently Carry Out Everyday Tasks
Our paediatric Occupational Therapists are experienced in providing Cerebral Palsy therapy to assist your child to become more independent with everyday tasks. This may include:
• Treatment for fine motor control addressing activities such as; hand writing, use of switches, scissors or buttons
• Work on activities of daily living such as; washing, dressing and eating
• Postural and seating assessments for wheelchairs or bed positioning systems
• Prescription of equipment help make everyday tasks a little easier
• Assessment of the home or school to assist with access
